FAQ's: Are You Still Accepting Donation Jars?

FAQ’s At Local Refillery:

One of the most frequent questions we get is whether or not we are still accepting donation jars.

Our Free Jar Program is something we’re very proud of. It’s a way we can reuse many of the existing containers on the planet, instead of using new. It’s also a great option for anyone who’s forgotten their container(s) or finds they need more!

We’re almost always accepting donation jars for our Free Jar Program. Just remember, for our purposes, not all jars are equal! Due to the time it takes for us to sanitize them & the inability to properly sanitize others, we can only accept wide-mouth, label-free, clean jars. *Make sure they have lids, please!*

If you’re wondering why we’re so specific about which jars we’ll take, it’s for a few reasons:

  1. Labels - with the amount of jars we receive, these take a VERY long time to remove, which is quite costly (especially since we’re giving them away), so we need them to arrive label-free in order to offer them for free.

  2. Wide mouths - some jars have openings that are too narrow to sanitize properly (olive oil bottles, for example), so we do need them to have wider mouths in order to maintain VIHA’s health standards and keep you healthy!

  3. Lids - surprisingly, we have had many jars dropped off without lids in our 5 years of business. The other thing we’ve found, time and time again, is that jars just aren’t so good at containing things without them... kind of a crucial piece! Although we do have some lids in the back, we don’t have a huge supply of them, so when you’re dropping off jars, please ensure they have a fitting lid. =)

How to Donate: Drop off your clean jars with lids during business hours, and we’ll show you where to put them in the store.

Thanks so much for all your donations. We couldn't offer this program without your support!
